[Of horrid, miserably, cruel, ugly Takumi would leave the work to him. Even after trying to excuse himself for his health, somehow the task of convincing Gaku had fallen to him. Something something Takumi would have his hands full convincing the twins, and Gaku shouldn't be that hard to convince, right?
Eito had merely smiled. What else could he do?
So here he is, at Gaku's door. He breathes heavily through his teeth, bracing himself. He hates Gaku in particular for how loud and shrill he is, but the ugly creature otherwise hasn't done anything in particular to upset him. Just exist, but that's enough.
Whatever. He needs to get this done. Eito knocks on the door with clenched teeth behind his smile, folding his hands neatly behind his back.]
Gaku? If it's alright, could I talk with you for a bit? It's just me! I know you were probably expecting Takumi, but... I'm not that bad at conversation, I think. Just a casual chat between friends!
[ gaku has been lying on his bed all morning with his eyes closed, trying to fantasize about food in enough detail that he can trick himself into thinking he's actually eaten something. ugh. this was a lot easier to do when he was a kid, he's realizing.
when he eventually hears the knock on his door after some hours of this, he does expect it to be takumi, so hearing eito's voice instead makes him blink in confusion for a second as he sits up. he frowns; he's still frustrated with eito for caving and abandoning their anti-fighting faction, but he also still gives him a few points for having been a vocal part of it in the first place, so he's honestly not sure if this pisses him off more or less than it would have if it were takumi.
whatever. he begrudgingly goes over to the door and cracks it open, offering a glimpse of the garbage-strewn floor and a whiff of... less than fresh air from inside. ]
Look, if you're here to try to talk me into fighting, I've got nothing to say to you, bro.
[Oh, god, help him. His head spins as soon as the door opens, the utter reeking stench of the place nearly knocking Eito over. He grips his chest and breathes heavily, barely able to focus on Gaku for a second.]
Hhah.... Right. [He takes a half-step back and finds his smile again, even if he's gone a bit clammy.] I told Takumi I'd at least try. I was hoping you'd at least indulge me in talking about it for a bit. After all, I don't really know what's motivating you. Maybe if I could tell Takumi that, he'd understand your decision more.
[ well. okay, he feels a little bad seeing that, though he's just assuming it's eito's mysterious medical thing and has nothing to do with the state of his own room!!
he opens the door up further, extending a hand in case eito needs to grab hold of something. ]
Whoa, dude, you look like you're about to pass out.
[ you'd almost think eito was the one being systematically starved!!!! hahaha ]
Ugh... [ okay, maybe it's a little fucked that a guy in this condition is fighting when he isn't... though he still doesn't think he's being the crazy one in this situation. he sighs. ] Yeah, okay, come inside.
[ he'll go, uh, clear off some space on his couch quick... ]
[Gaku opening the door more only hits him with another blast of the horrid stench, and Eito has to close his eyes to keep them from watering.]
Y... yes, I'll be alright. [Honestly, he might just pass out at this point.] Maybe we could... stay out here? I think the fresh air will help with my condition.
[It's not a lie, actually, and the only way he thinks he'll survive this is by avoiding entering that hole of filth and despair. So instead he meandered towards the fence, hoping Gaku will follow him.]
I don't want to push you into anything you don't want. After all, I am still torn about the idea of fighting myself... my motivation now is simple to avoid seeing anyone get hurt.
[ gaku looks back out the door from the couch with an armful of long-empty soda cans and old food wrappers (in retrospect he really should have saved some of that stuff), suddenly realizing eito did not actually follow him in. ]
Oh. You sure?
[ ...
drops it all on the floor and goes back outside (after warily poking his head out and looking both ways to make sure he's not about to run into hiruko).
there's a scoff at that first part as he joins eito by the fence; he's been getting pushed into things he doesn't want to do nonstop since before he even woke up here. ]
Well, that's a real cool motivation, man, but that's not gonna work for me.
[Hiruko may be intense, but he imagines she would leave them be if she sensed them trying to recruit the others. Not that he wants to succeed, but even so. Hiruko is a problem to solve not right this second. He needs to get his timing right with that one.]
I understand. I was simply moved by Takumi and the others helping me... [He stares at the horizon, much preferring that to the image of Gaku next to him. Even if his writhing form is still in the corner of his eyes.
A part of him thinks Gaku's being horribly, despicably selfish. It's so like humans to prioritize themselves over others. And yet he understands not wanting to help humanity, so...]
Is it that you're afraid of fighting? I was scared at first, too, but we're more powerful than we realize.
[Well. Everyone here is a freak, as far as he's concerned, but he follows. There is something thrilling about battle, though. He's kind of been enjoying it.]
Oh... no, I suppose not. Do you need help? I know Takumi and myself would be happy to help, but Takumi is-- [He smiles, as if fondly, and a little teasing,] -- Well, he may have just not noticed. And I'm not always good with social cues, so....
I'll see what I can do. Hiruko's very.... um. Well.
[Oh well. Eito's going to make sure she's not an issue for very much longer. But even so.]
Oh. [That genuinely catches him off guard. It should only figure that not everyone had as positive of an experience as run-of-the-mill Takumi, but he's never really thought about it.] I... can't say they're exactly high on my priority list, either.
[ huh. that catches gaku a little off guard too. eito seems like the kind of person who'd get along with almost anyone... though he guesses maybe if he spent that much time sick in the hospital, he might not have known many people there? ]
You risked your freakin' life trying to go back on your own, didn't you? Like, obviously we all wanna get the heck out of here, but... I kind of figured you had something important there.
[Ah, right. He can't make it too obvious what that was really about...]
I was more worried about just trying to make contact. It's worried me that we haven't really heard anything, and without Sirei... [He looks down, feigning worry.]
Besides, it's... it's still safer there. I didn't think I was cut out for fighting until I tried. [He's getting a little lost in his lies, but even so.] Hiruko doesn't care about why we fight. If you want to fight just to get a better cut of meals, I don't think anyone would really care. We all do what we have to in order to survive, right?
